What Queen BOSS Taught Me About Entrepreneurship

Imagine my delight when I saw there was a new show coming on that spotlighted African American female entrepreneurs. I never thought I would be taught clear information while watching reality tv. I was pleasantly surprised to learn how to be better at entrepreneurship.

Centric TV rolled out a brand new show, Queen Boss Saturday. This show is hosted by Tracey Edmonds. The judges were Kandi Burruss, Lauren Lake, and Vanessa Simmons on this first episode. The contestants were Lucinda Cross, Rahama Wright and Sherita Cuffee. These women had amazing products that have so much potential. You have to watch it to see who advanced to the semi-finals.

These women had amazing products that have so much potential. As I sat there glued to my tv, I had a note-pad and took notes.

Below is a list of 10 things I learned from this educational show. The first three are from the show.

  1. Be passionate about your product – When you are passionate about your product, other people can feel your passion. This makes it easy for them to connect to your product or service.
  2. Refine your grind – If something isn’t working, try something else. I am in the process of doing that right now. It doesn’t feel good but it is necessary.
  3. Put in the work – Look, being an entrepreneur is not easy. If you don’t put in the work, it won’t happen. I get up mad early and usually go to bed last in my house. I DVR everything I want to want and will catch it while folding clothes.
  4. Be prepared – Always have a business card. I can’t tell you how many times, I did not have a business card in the grocery store or at one of my kid’s games. Now, I carry them everywhere I go.
  5. Know your numbers – To produce your product, scale your business, sales per month, shipping costs, etc.
  6. Always have your product with you – Whether you wear it or carry it, you can give to someone to experience it. They will remember you.
  7. Make your connections genuine – When you connect with people, make sure they feel that you are sincere and genuine. If you come off as being fake or desperate, they can feel it too.
  8. Know your target market – It is important to know who needs your product or service. Everyone doesn’t want or need what you have.
  9. Know your competitors and what they are doing – When you know what your competitors are doing, you will know how to effectively price your services or products.
  10. Connect with like-minded people. This provides a safe place to share your ideas with people who will encourage you. In the entrepreneur world, it is easy to feel like you are alone. Having a group of people who are on the same track, helps you to remain motivated.

I hope you get a chance to not only check out this show but to support it. If you can’t watch it when it is airing, DVR it.
