Navigating the Next Few Days with #45

Mark 7:12, “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.”

I’ve had several conversations these last few days regarding #45. His actions are not representative of the Christ I serve. I do not know what #45 believes but I do what the Bible says about people and their actions.

Mark 7:15-20, “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.  By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?  Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

As a Christian woman, I have taught my children to love and to respect everyone. This includes those who do not:
• Look like you
• Worship like you
• Dress like you
• Live like you
• Speak like you
• Love like you

My husband and I have gay, lesbian, Trans, Muslim, Atheist, and friends who are different from us. We have plenty friends from other countries who we love dearly. We have done our best to show all of them love. We have even shared Christ with some of them. But we never, ever took it upon ourselves to shun any of them.

Christ represents Love. He is love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 shares “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.  Love never fails.”

What we are seeing is someone who is divisive and self-serving. We see someone who is only looking out for folks who look like him.
This is not how Jesus was. Jesus was inclusive. He received and accepted those that the world cast aside. He was murdered for going against the leaders of that time. He spoke up. Jesus was not a punk. Just ask the money changers in the church.

As we embark on these next few days, I implore you to let LOVE guide you in all you do. Attempt to:
1. Pray for #45 – that God will change his heart to a heart of love and service to his fellow mankind.
2. Pray for our brothers and sisters who are directly affected by his current executive orders, to include our military members.
3. Reach out to your local congress members and voice your concerns.
4. Write Letters to your county officials and school board members about issues that are important to you.
5. Connect with other people who have influence in various sectors.
6. Take a break from social media and the news.
7. Pray some more.
8. Get to know your neighbors.
9. Listen to public radio for news you will not hear anywhere else. Check out Democracy NOW on the radio and television!
10. Read BBC, Aljazeera News and other non-USA media for a broader perspective of what’s really going on in the world.

I am following the example of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ by praying to my heavenly Father and then taking action. I will not allow the terrible actions of this current president, get me down or depressed. On the contrary, I will be mobilizing.

  4. By far, this is the BEST post I have seen in weeks! I deliberated about posting something similar, and I still will, but I applaud your passion, your activism, and your eloquence! We must all follow Jesus’ example. As you said, he was not a punk. He had no problems confronting folks (i.e. the money changers). Have a wonderful week, Sis. Know that you blessed me with this post!

  5. This is a great post. Listen, I am not going to lie that I was nervous, especially with all that has happened with him being in office for only 10 days! It is a bit scary.

  6. I love this! Absolutely love it! There are so many tidbits of wisdom that are addressed here and you’ve perfectly summed up the narrative which I’m happy to live out when it comes to accepting anyone. I can’t get behind the actions of this president and neither can I be silent. And the fruit…yes, that says it all. Thank you for this.

  10. To me the strongest message of Christianity is LOVE. Period. Nothing else is important, because God is love so the moment love is taken out of the equation it is no longer a God-movement.

  11. ” I will not allow the terrible actions of this current president, get me down or depressed.” Powerful statement, Tanya. I must admit sometimes my spirit just gets low but he is not who I serve and it further reminds me that it’s time to get up and make true MOVES.
