Interview: Nubian Skin founder, Ade Hassan

At the Real Wife Movement, we promote healthy and whole  relationships. Looking and feeling good is a key component to how you relate to your significant other. We should take careful consideration of our undergarments as well. We chatted a few weeks ago about the undergarment and sleepwear purge.

With that being said, I am ridiculously excited to be able to interview the owner of Nubian Skin. Her undergarments and hosiery are made to match our beautiful and unique skin tones.

Her new product line, The Africa Collection, Morrocan Nights is super sexy and sassy.

Make sure you visit Nubian Skin and let them know, your Real Wife Coach sent you.

Where is your target market location?

We are planning to expand to reach as many women as possible. We are UK based, but ship globally, and have a great customer base in the US!

Nubian Skin Founder, Ade Hassan

Who is your target audience?

Any woman who wants to feel comfortable in her own skin.

What’s the “Why” behind your business?

Nubian Skin was essentially born out of frustration. I wanted a product that I couldn’t find in shops, so I decided to create it. I knew I couldn’t be the only one who felt the same way. I realised it was something I needed and was so essential, that it had to be something other women of colour would want!

What do you hope people will come away from your business with?

We’re all about ‘Empowering Women & Embracing our Colour”!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I would love it if Nubian Skin became a household name, and would love to see the brand expand so that any woman of colour could walk into a department store and pick up her perfect pair of Nubian Skin tights or bra!

Who inspires you and why?

My family. They are wonderful. I have an incredibly supportive husband, and my siblings and parents are just amazing. My mother is an incredible woman, and my father cannot do enough for his family. They are both entrepreneurs, and they’ve set a great example for me.

Also women like Eunice Johnson and Iman, who took the steps to create make up since they couldn’t find what they needed. From more of a business perspective, Sarah Blakely who created Spanx…she just killed it and changed the market.

Any advice for those who want to become an entrepreneur?

Firstly It’s really important to research your idea to make sure that whatever it is, it’s valid. Make sure you really believe in the idea especially if you’re working in another job. If you’re up at 4:00 a.m. or 2:00 a.m. working on this, then you want to believe in it. You also need to be willing to work really hard.

Everybody who is going to start something anticipates that it’s going to be difficult, and that it’s going to be hard, but it will be so much more difficult and so much harder than you can prepare yourself for. And also – have faith in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, then who will?

If you could give your 18 year old self advice, what would it be?

It would probably be to work hard and believe in yourself.
