5th Annual Women Veterans & Women in the Military Extravaganza

During the Veterans Day Weekend, I attended the 5th Annual Women Veterans & Women in the Military Extravaganza. This event was created by the founder of the Women Veterans Interactive, Ginger Miller, U.S. Navy Retired. Ginger has a heart for all military and veteran women after personally experiencing the sting of homelessness after serving her country.

I had the distinct pleasure of attending this highly informative and emotional event with my veteran sisters. The event began on Veterans Day and ended that Sunday. It was held at Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center, which was a beautiful venue. Completely Yours Events LLC was the event planner for this event. Their service was impeccable and by the end of day one, everyone knew that Cheryl Bruce was in charge.

Day one began with a fantastic breakfast. This is clearly one of those events where you really had to be there to receive the full effect of this conference. On the first day, we were given information from various government departments that service veterans.

We were given so much information about services that are available not only for veterans but also those services that were exclusively for female veterans. Everyone was taking notes like we were in a class. Some of the organizations represented were:

  • Center for Women Veterans
  • Center of Minority Veterans
  • U.S. Department of Labor, Women Veteran Program
  • U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs
  • Vet Centers

On day two, we were graced with phenomenal panels. I had the honor of sitting on the first panel with fellow veteran women. We all shared our personal stories of overcoming difficult situations and how we are giving back to our communities today.

Founder Ginger Miller shared her personal story with us. She encouraged all of us to Embrace our Reality on the Road to Victory.

We were honored to learn from former NFL player Marques Ogden, Ari Squires, Michele Thornton, and Torrei Hart. The fabulous Vicki Irvin was the mistress of ceremonies for the extravaganza and Fonsworth Bentley hosted the annual gala.

Sunday, was the Denim and White Color Brunch Cruise upon the gorgeous Odyssey Cruise. We had a fun time as we found ourselves cruising the Potomac River around Washington, DC.

If you are a woman veteran, you do not want to miss this event. I gained valuable information and formed relationships with women who share my story.

My outfits were styled by Tracie Nichole and my jewelry was created for this event by Keshua Hunt.

  1. What an amazing event. You hear such horror stories about veterans and the way they are treated. It’s nice to know something like this exists. To aid women especially. Glad you were able to enjoy something and do good at the same time.
